Wireless

The Wireless ISP was one company that benefited from WiFi (WISP). This is a concept for selling Internet access services utilizing wireless LAN technology and a communal Internet connection in a public area designated as a hot spot.

Technically, access to the service is constrained due to the WLAN technology's limited transmission range. You must be close to the access point (within 100 meters) or in the hot spot to use it. From a commercial perspective, customers can either pay a monthly charge to subscribe to a particular carrier's service or a cost per hour to use it on demand. There aren't many intercarrier access agreements; therefore, even though the monthly charge basis is the most cost-effective, you have to be in a hot spot operated by your carrier to access your service.
